Located in the beautiful town of Lake Lure is Canopy Ridge Farm, a 60-acre zip-lining park surrounded by lush vegetation and sky-high trees.
Children as young as two can enjoy the lines, which are strong enough to withstand over 23,000 lbs strength of weight, meaning large groups can experience the lines together.
“Being able to accommodate ages 2 to 89 allows families to enjoy the experience together instead of parents or grandparents just being observers of the activity, explains General Manager Lisa Sullivan. “For a lot of people, even many of those afraid of heights, zip lining gives a whole new perspective of nature.”
In 1997, Charleston-native John Wagner came upon Lake Lure on his way to Asheville. He fell in love with the beauty and tranquility of the peaceful, little resort town and decided to return the following year. Wagner was a former tennis professional and enjoyed outdoor adventure sports, so he started the Lake Lure Adventure Company and then later opened Canopy Ridge Farm.

Within the park, there are six lines, each including customized special features. The most adrenaline-fueled line in the park is the Zip Zilla, which at 1000 feet long generates maximum speed. Another feature of zip lining that attracts enthusiasts in the area is its simple eco-friendly design, which consists almost entirely of only steel cable, bolts, and gravity.
“In the past few years zip lining has become a more mainstream activity for families and being an eco-tourism destination, Lake Lure really makes this a prime place for the business,” Sullivan shared.
The park is perfect for group outings such as birthdays, school groups, business outings, and wedding parties because the lines take no previous experience to enjoy. Guides will walk each tour member through the lines (giving special attention to people with previous injuries in the knees, back or ankles). Perhaps they’ll even show you some of their own tricks.
Guests should always wear closed-toed shoes and remember to take everything out of their pockets. Strapless glasses should be removed. Weary of heights? The guides are extremely knowledgeable and will make you feeling comfortable from beginning to end.
