Rain or shine, the Tryon Arts and Crafts School (TACS) presents its annual Fall Festival this weekend on October 13 and 14. Featuring over 30 artisans and craftspeople, this two-day event held on the school's grounds includes vendors, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
TACS invites you to this free, public event in celebration of and gratitude for the talented craftspeople of our region. Purchase decorative pottery by Lucinda Pittman (whose work is pictured above), Jim Cullen, Merci Weitzen, and Ron Ponce. Cindy Walker dyes her Carolina-spun and organic cotton. Newcomer Rupert Hodges shares his pastel paintings. Other mediums include jewelry, wood-turned pieces, construct woodworking pieces, and fiber arts by the Weaver's Group at TACS. Janet Bennett sells her designer totebags and Vasanto is a felt artist. Bryan Shope's wooden bowl (pictured below) is an example of careful handiwork.
Demos include pottery making, woodturning, weaving, and metalworking in the forge. The silent auction items are displayed in the school with bidding beginning on Thursday, October 11 and ending at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday with a posting of the winners.
Tryon Arts and Crafts School (TACS) is a nonprofit organization, which "provides creative opportunities for everyone through education, instruction, and expression of heritage and contemporary arts and crafts in a friendly, stimulating and enriching environment."
Since relocating into the Tryon Middle School on Harmon Field Road six years ago, FACS has been able to expand class offerings, serving a broader segment of the WNC community. The school offers classes and workshops. Some of the workshops remaining for this fall include a folk art doll workshop, felt hat workshop, wood tuning workshop, and holiday felting workshop.
Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. TACS is located at 373 Harmon Field Road in Tryon. For more information on the Tryon Arts & Crafts School as well as classes and workshops, call 828.859.8323 or visit online at TryonArtsandCrafts.org.
