If you haven’t gotten your fill of fall foliage views, yet, (or even if you have), riding on this 12-mile bus tour through the DuPont State Recreational Forest will give you an afternoon of waterfalls and mountains.  On Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14, multiple shuttle buses carry passengers to four sites—Triple Falls, High Falls (in photo), Bridal Veil Falls, and Lake Julia—and stop at each one so visitors can take photos and explore the area.

Tour de Falls provides families and those with limited hiking abilities to tour the DuPont State Recreational Forest, which spans 10,400 acres. Buses leave the event parking area approximately every 30 minutes from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and the tour takes a minimum of 2.5 hours, depending on the duration of each stop.

This excursion is sponsored by the Friends of DuPont Forest, a nonprofit organization that enriches and preserves the natural resources and recreational activities in DuPont State Recreational Forest, in partnership with the North Carolina Forest Service and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

Friends of DuPont requests that donations (by cash or check) be made of $6 for youth aged 6-17 and $12 for adults ages 18 and above.  These funds are used to finance construction projects for shelters and steps to the waterfalls as well as maintenance of the 80 plus miles of trails. Educational and research-driven projects also benefit from donations.

Visitors are advised to bring water and additional snacks as Triple Falls and High Falls have covered shelters with picnic tables. No concessions will be available, although the last stop at Lake Julia does have a lodge with light refreshments.

DuPont State Recreational Forest is located in Henderson and Transylvania counties in the mountains of WNC. Event parking is located at 1300 Staton Road in Cedar Mountain. Directional signs are available to the High Falls access point. For more information on this specific event, call 828.692.2929.
