Since September 7, AnTHM Gallery has presented the multi-month “Carolina On My Mind,” an art collective of multi-media depictions of Carolinian landscapes. Far from remaining static, this exhibit began with a set collection for the month of September and will change content again in October and then once more in November. With each opening reception, different artists begin displaying their pieces, which include those in fabrics, oils, acrylic, photography on canvas, and wood carvings.

The next free and public reception and art rotation takes place on October 5 and features selected works by Joye Ardyn Durham, Keith Spencer, Cornelia Katchen, and Bill Boyd, top left going clockwise, respectively. Joye, owner of the Gingko Tree Gallery in Black Mountain, photographs with an acute sense of the light source and a focus on the present moment. Keith’s repertoire includes a range of both figurative and landscape paintings, frequently done in “thealla prima tradition” (one sitting). Bill, a California-native, studied black-and-white photography before turning to oil painting and abstract realism. Cornelia has worked in New York city as a commercial photographer, exploring alternative and pinhole images; she now takes images that allow her to grow and evolve in love, kindness, and peace.

“This particular show ... is special in that so many of the artists I work with draw inspiration from this landscape we call home,” explains Cappi Macsherry, owner of the AnTHM Gallery and curator of this exhibit. “Though most of the artists I represent paint in a contemporary style--mixing figurative with the abstract in a powerful use of color--it is necessary and lovely intermittently to reflect on what lies around us and simply translate it onto canvas.”

AnTHM Gallery is also hosting "Harvest of Art," an open house and mixer, on Saturday, October 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Several "Carolina on my Mind" artists will also be present at this event. Cappi invites you to visit the AnTHM Gallery to see the latest works, meet the artists, taste hors d'oeuvres, sip wine, enjoy live fiddle music, mingle with friends, and be inspired.

The reception on November 2 will feature selected works by Marian Sinks, Nancy Clausen, Ed Fadool, and Bill Boyd. Attend the upcoming reception on October 5 for Monte Vista’s monthly “First Friday” event and enjoy live music, “Artini” drink specials, patio dining, and a mingling opportunity with the artists. Visit the ongoing AnTHM gallery exhibit at the Monte Vista Hotel through November 25.

Viewing hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Monte Vista Hotel is located at 308 West State Street in Black Mountain. For more information, visit online at anthmgallery.com or call 828.419.0049.
